Privacy policy

Last updated:

This privacy policy explains how Personal Data is processed when you use the Knots Kit mobile app for Android and iOS (named Kit nodi in Italian) and when you visit the website knotskit.app.

1. Owner and Data Controller

Knots Kit

Owner contact email: info@knotskit.app

2. Types of Data collected

Knots Kit works without an account and does not collect data that identifies you directly. The Application collects only the following data:

  • Crash reports and diagnostic data: technical information about errors and app sessions, together with a random identifier created when the app is installed.
  • Feature suggestions: the text you write in Settings > Suggest a feature, with the app version, the app language and the platform, sent only when you tap Send.
  • Messages you send by email: your email address and the content of your message, if you choose to write to us.

Data that is not collected

  • No account: there is no registration or sign-in, and the app never asks for your name, email address or phone number.
  • Your favorites, your settings, the activities you choose and anything you type in the search field stay on your device and are never sent.
  • No location: the app does not access your location, and IP addresses are not stored with crash reports or feature suggestions.
  • No access to photos, camera, microphone, contacts or files: the app does not request any of these permissions.
  • No advertising identifier and no hardware device identifiers.
  • No analytics, advertising or tracking tools, and no tracking across other apps or websites.
  • When you share a knot, the app passes a short text to your device’s share menu. It does not see which app or contact you choose.
  • No data is sold, rented or shared with third parties for their own purposes.

3. Mode and place of processing the Data

Methods of processing

The Owner takes appropriate security measures to prevent unauthorized access, disclosure, modification or destruction of the Data. Everything the app sends travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS), and access to the Data is limited to the Owner. The Data is processed by the following service providers, which act as Data Processors on the Owner’s behalf and do not use it for their own purposes:

  • Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.), for crash reports and diagnostic data;
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS), for feature suggestions and for hosting the website;
  • the Owner’s email service providers, for messages sent by email.

Place

Crash reports are stored in Sentry’s data region in the European Union. Feature suggestions are stored on Amazon Web Services in the Frankfurt region (Germany, European Union). The data the app keeps on your device stays on your device.

If a service provider accesses Data from outside the European Union, the transfer is covered by the safeguards required by the GDPR, such as the Standard Contractual Clauses adopted by the European Commission.

Retention time

  • Crash reports and diagnostic data are deleted automatically within 90 days.
  • Feature suggestions are kept for as long as they are useful for planning the development of the app, and deleted earlier if you ask.
  • Messages sent by email are kept for as long as needed to answer and follow up on your request.
  • Technical logs are deleted after two weeks (section 7).

4. The purposes of processing

Data is collected only to:

  • keep the app stable, by detecting, diagnosing and fixing crashes and errors (crash reports and diagnostic data);
  • improve the app, by reading the feature suggestions you choose to send;
  • answer the messages you send by email.

Data is never used for advertising, marketing, profiling or automated decision-making.

5. Detailed information on the processing of Personal Data

Crash reports and diagnostics (Sentry)

The app uses Sentry, a crash reporting service provided by Functional Software, Inc. When the app crashes, stops responding or meets an error, it sends a report that contains:

  • the type of error and the technical trace of where it happened in the app’s code;
  • a short log of the technical events that preceded it, such as taps on app controls or the app moving to the background, without any text you typed;
  • the device model, the operating system and its version, the app version, the device’s language and time zone settings, and details about the device’s state at that moment, such as available memory and storage;
  • a random identifier created when the app is installed. It is not derived from your device’s hardware, it is not linked to your name or to any account, and a new one is created if you reinstall the app.

Each time the app is opened, it also sends a short session status (whether the session ended normally or with a crash, with the same random identifier), used to measure the app’s stability. It contains no information about the knots you view or what you do in the app.

Reports never include your favorites, your settings, your search text or the text of a feature suggestion, and IP addresses are not stored. Place of processing: European Union. Retention: up to 90 days.

Feature suggestions

In Settings, Suggest a feature lets you send a short message (up to 1,000 characters) to the Owner. It is sent only when you tap Send, together with the app version, the app language and region setting (for example en-US) and the platform (Android or iOS). No account, name, email address or device identifier is attached. Please do not include personal information, such as your name or contact details, in the text.

Suggestions are read only by the Owner, and nothing about them is kept on your device after sending. Because they are anonymous, a suggestion can be found and deleted only if you quote its text in a request to info@knotskit.app. Place of processing: Frankfurt, Germany (European Union).

Messages sent by email

Support in the app's Settings and the email links on the website open your own email app with a message addressed to info@knotskit.app; the app itself sends nothing. If you write to us, the Owner receives your email address, the content of your message and anything you choose to include (the subject prepared by the app contains the app name and version). They are used only to answer you.

Data stored on your device

The app saves the following on your device, so that it opens the way you left it:

  • your favorite knots;
  • your settings: language, theme, tying hand, playback speed and auto-advance;
  • the activities you chose and your progress through the welcome screens.

This data is never sent to the Owner or to anyone else and is deleted when you uninstall the app. On Android it is excluded from device backups; on iOS it is included in your device’s backups, like the data of other apps.

6. Further information for Users in the European Union

Legal basis of processing

  • Crash reports and diagnostic data: the Owner’s legitimate interest in keeping the app stable and fixing errors (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). The data is limited to what is needed for this purpose and is not linked to your identity.
  • Feature suggestions: your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR), given when you tap Send. You can withdraw it at any time by asking for the suggestion to be deleted. Withdrawal does not affect processing carried out before it.
  • Messages sent by email: the Owner’s legitimate interest in answering your request (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

  • access the Personal Data concerning you;
  • have inaccurate data corrected;
  • have your data erased;
  • restrict the processing of your data;
  • object to processing based on legitimate interest;
  • receive your data in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format (data portability);
  • withdraw your consent at any time, where processing is based on consent;
  • lodge a complaint with the data protection supervisory authority of the EU Member State where you live or work, or where the alleged infringement took place.

Data that does not identify you

The Application does not collect your name, your email address or a hardware identifier. Under Article 11 GDPR, when the Owner is not in a position to identify you, the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction and portability may not apply, unless you provide additional information that allows the data to be linked to you. For example, a feature suggestion can be found only if you quote its text. Crash reports cannot be linked to a person and are deleted automatically within 90 days.

How to exercise your rights

Send your request to info@knotskit.app. Requests are free of charge and are answered without undue delay, and in any case within one month.

7. Additional information about Data collection and processing

Legal action

Personal Data may be used by the Owner in legal proceedings or in the steps leading to possible legal action arising from improper use of the Application or related services. The Owner may also be required to disclose Personal Data at the request of public authorities.

System logs and maintenance

For operation and security, the service that receives feature suggestions records technical logs of each request (time, outcome, message length, app version, language and platform). These logs never contain the text of a suggestion or an IP address and are deleted after two weeks.

The hosting provider of the website records standard technical information about requests to the site, such as IP address, requested page, time and browser type, for the operation and security of the service.

Cookies

The app does not use cookies. Apart from the data described under “Data stored on your device”, the only value it keeps on your device is the random identifier used for crash reports.

The website knotskit.app does not use cookies or analytics. It only stores your language preference in your browser’s local storage.

Children

The Application is not directed at children under the age of 13, and the Owner does not knowingly collect Personal Data from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent personal information, for example in a feature suggestion, write to info@knotskit.app and it will be deleted.

Changes to this privacy policy

The Owner may update this privacy policy, for example when the app gains a new feature. The current version is always published at https://knotskit.app/privacy-policy, with the date of the last update at the top of the page.
